Multi-GPU workstation
A multi-GPU workstation runs two or more GPUs in one machine, usually on separate parallel jobs rather than one combined render.
A multi-GPU workstation puts two or more graphics cards in one machine, generally running several jobs in parallel rather than splitting a single job across cards. Each GPU works independently, unlike the old consumer SLI and CrossFire schemes that combined two cards on one frame. Software decides how the work spreads: a render engine queues frames per card, a training job splits a batch, or separate users get separate sessions.
PCIe lanes set the real ceiling. A consumer desktop CPU offers about 24 usable lanes, enough for one full-bandwidth GPU and an NVMe drive. A Threadripper PRO WRX90 board offers 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes, enough for four double-width cards at x16 each with lanes left for storage and networking. Power scales the same way. Two 300 W cards plus a 350 W CPU and the rest of the system clear 1,000 W under load. Four cards push the machine onto a dedicated 20 A circuit.
Count lanes per card before counting dollars per card, since a platform that starves a GPU of bandwidth wastes what the card can do. Match the chassis, cooling, and power supply to the combined draw of every card plus the CPU, with headroom.
